TOPIC: Glen

Glen 3 years, 3 months ago #5757

I appreciate all you comments and have read them all and whilst I understand what some people may think, I am an animal lover I have had dogs all my life I used to breed and break horses in and took on cases that no-one else could ride expert as I am there were some that I could not get used to human contact., there was alot of history with Glen that could not be put on the forum we did contact the breeder she was not interested, the decision we made we know was the correct one for our beloved Glen ,we did not want him broken ,his spirit will live on in our memories, you can quote as many things as you like I was here living with it , in one week he had knocked over and hurt a two year old girl he had known , he had tried to bite the cat ,almost bitten me twice and attacked Kes in every breed there can be aggression with Glen I feel there was an underlying health issue we will never know but at least we can remember him and smile and we dont remember him from scars we have planted a tree in his memory.
Some unscrupolous people may have rehomed him and used him for breeding, how is anyone to know, he may have been shut ouside in a kennel all the time there a lots of things that could have happened and yes people do win the lottery

You did what you felt was the right thing for Glen, Kes and others. Do not worry what others say. As you said, it was you that lived with the problems. We can all give advice and make comments with hindsight but it was your decision to make and I for one respect you for it. It obviously wasn't an easy decision to make.

Some of the comments that have been must have been less than helpful and especially at this time when Glen has not long left you.

Trish, as long as you can live with the decision that you took then blow what others say. Take care

I have met and talked in length to this family, and knowing what they have gone through,I would have done exactly the same had I been in their situation. They are loving, caring people, please do not judge hastily.I have so much trust in them, they have my most treasured pup,who will grow up much loved and in a perfect enviroment.

You were 100% right. I think if we were talking about a Rottweiller or a Pitbull would people get upset that the dog had been PTS, I don't think so. Sometimes being Dh loves clouds our judgement.
A dog that attacks, for whatever reason is after all, a dog. It isn't acceptable and cannot be tolerated. You were the one who witnessed his behaviour and did the right thing before things got worse.

You have given Kes a chance to live a happy, peaceful life.

My old employer who is a vet (but does know about dogs) works and judges working spaniels. He always said if there was a chance the dog bit another dog or fought with another dog you can mend the dog but if the dog bit a child especially the face you would never live with yourself or ever trust the dog again.Wise words.

You obviously tried everything Trish. I am appalled that your breeder was not there for
you. It is a very hard decision to have to make as we know because we had to make it
with a 12 month old bitch (for different reasons to yours) but nonetheless not an easy one.

Good luck with your new puppy from Lynne. I am sure she will bring you years of joy and be
a lovely companion for Kes.

I think the reason the breeder was not interested speaks volumes and they should be condemned for 'offloading' as they did to someone who trusted them.
We too had to make a similar decision with a standard poodle...I still have tearful thoughts at what she did to another and we were 10 minutes too late to save our savaged, 'odd' poodle.
At such times, Rescues will not help, if you are honest and so we took our vets advice. My dad used to call it 'red eye' and I could see it that day.
