Today we have the last time at the puppy course. And we tested to track. I said that I don't think that Norbert would be interested but I will try. And the teatcher says it to. We tried and guess what happend?
Norbert was the best one:laugh: He take the track directly and goes all the way. He was fantastic. The other dogs running around and doing other things too, Norbert was the only one who was focussed.

And we also practice call up with other dogs besides the way, hope you understands what I mean.
We sat the dog and go away between the other dogs and then called our dog. Some of them runs to another dog and start playing and some don't sit still. And what did Norbert do?

He was great he sit still and then when I called him he runs straight to me with speed.

That's my boy He is fantastic, I was so impressed of him. Sorry the course finished already. But we have to doing this at home.

Well done Norbert, you proved them all wrong! Deerhounds are so obedient, come to call, sit and stay when told to and do not annoy other dogs, ha ha, dream on Helen.........

I am glad you and Norbert have had a good time at school. He is so clever.
Lovely to see him up & awake and so alert in picture.
What a cute face! He appears to have grown a lot!
Keep up the good work, maybe he will remember his training when the stubborn side of him kicks in.

Deerhounds, as well as other hounds are not so stupid like they tell! When I first joined training with my IW, i was met with "dont expect that you can teach him....(long list)
It provetd that he was the second best in class, only "beaten" by a border collie. But then, they are no dogs, they are robots.

Hope you will be able to join anothe rclass after puppy class, and show them what deerhounds can beside sleeping!

true true we have been talking about it with Fern. I hadn't heard I couldn't do it with my first dog 20 years ago and he was a star. Peoples expectations seem low. Just cos they are beautiful ..... doesn't mean...

Oh it must have been some missunderstandings here. We didn't judge out Norbert because he is a DH. The teacher is very good because she doesn't say that you can't do this and you can't do that because of wich breed you have. She say that all dogs can learn things, that's why I like her.

Our judgement was based on what we have done earlier at course, Norbert hasn't been so very interested in what we have been doing. But in this last day he was so very alert in everything.
Of course they have ups and downs lika us, maybee he have learn but not wanted to do things, and then he suddenly wanted to do it.

But it is much prejudice here to, about sighthounds that you not can learn them things because they should be more stupid than other dogs. I have not so much experience of sighthounds but what i have seen of DH this last month since I got Norbert I will say that it is just the opposite. They are much clever and much more like humans, aren't they? I think so.

I am not so fond of training with dogs, I just wants them to live with me in a good mood and that we can be with other animals and people without doing so much damage.:0)
And then it is funny to find out something to do with the dogs which they like, for ex. tracking. We walks and do horsebackriding, dog shows and so on.

I didn't have such a big dog before, Rottweiler was the biggest but it was many years ago and the last 16 years I only have schipperkes and I can see that a large dog have to behave more polite with others, because they can frighten them just because they are big. People doesn't know what a little dog can do

Yes I will do more course with Norbert because I liked it and I think he also do even if he doesn't like all the things we do.

This is a picture of an very intelligent hound

You are so right.
I thought it was just my deerhound bias. I have never felt connected to any breed of dog like deerhounds (Not just my own). They are wonderfully special aren't they?

Yes they are.
I have had many dogs but the way I feels for Norbert I never had felt for any other dog, he is really special, and I can see my family have the same reaction. My husbands for example, he is not really a dogperson. And he doesn't engage with the dog's they are mine and my hobbie.
But with Norbert he takes him out, he talk with him much more than he do with the others and it is a big differens. Maybe it is because the size I think men prefer larger dogs (sorry if I am prejudice) but I really thinks that he like Norbert more.

Of course I love all my dogs but Norbert is special, when he is laying in hes beanbag you just can't just past him, I always have to bend down and kiss him och hug him, I think that he sometimes think that I am strenuous but he is a gentlemen and didn't show it.
