Just got back from Sue's, where we had the first day of spring and some excellent runs. We had ten Deerhounds present and twelve other breeds, ranging from lurchers through a Beagle and a large working terrier to a Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla, so we ran a Deerhound stakes and an other breeds stakes, with two late arrival Deerhounds running as other breeds and a Wolfhound/Deerhound cross running as a Deerhound. With me so far? Good.

The Deerhound stakes was won by Sue's Rannoch (Gentiehun Tain) from the Wolfhound x Deerhound Tara, who took to running a lure like a duck to water and enjoyed herself so much she wanted another go - not bad for a dog with a repaired cruciate ligament. Claire Cartmel's Hallaig came for a day out with his girls and got the idea straight away. The other breeds stakes was won by Brin the turbo lurcher, from Kiki Cartmel, running as another breed.

The puppies had a very short puppy dash, but didn't quite get the idea, being too busy having fun and making new friends and demanding cuddles.

We've been so lucky with the weather at Sue's - every day has been a sitting out and chatting day. Many thanks as ever to Team Rose for all their kindness, including providing transport up the hill for your correspondent, who, like her dog, is not yet match fit. The dates for the rest of the season are on the front page - hope to see you there (Farnorth, please note!)

Hello
just logged on to say thank you for making us first time visitors so welcome:cheer: Most of us newbies are Lurcher Link members, so we were meeting up as well as enjoying the beautiful deerhounds.

My whippet lurcher Biscuit ran at the end for fun and I'm gobsmacked he followed the lure:lol:

Below is a link to Picasa, and if you click on the slideshow green button at the top left hand corner, it will take you into my pics for the day. There are others posted in the Chat section at www.lurcher.org as well - enjoy, and thanks again.

hi we will try and get down but it is still a fair hike from john o groats to where you are dont know if our two will chase a lure but it will be fun to see they may pick it up from the other deerhounds but our lurcher wont chase anything that hasnt got long ears or whiskers

Look at this wee puppy, it would fit in the smallest of homes, never let it be said that these dogs need loads of space.
Thank you for giving my mum a lift up the hill in the 4x4, you run the friendliest meet I've ever attended. Bryn is still puffed up and full of himself and the racing has taken years off Bella (and a few pounds)
I hope I can get to the next one, I won't bother bringing Cara, if it aint breathing she just doesn't care. I'll bring Bryns sister, just as long as there are plenty of folk to assist in the rugby tackle style catching required at the end of the race.

Thanks again for a great day.

Bella is most welcome so long as she hits the right notes, we should run her first to get the hounds going, I hope your mum had a good day and comes again, we are hoping that as the fields get dryer we might get cars up
We are so glad you had a good day

Nice to meet you all at Rumbling Bridge on Sunday. We had a fun day at the coursing and Tara and Zak seemed to have a great time, even if they were trying it for the first time. I really didn’t think that either of them would go for the lure, but they both got the idea very quickly.

It was so good to see Tara running so confidently given the problems that we went through with her leg. So you should see us back for more.

So somehow I managed to take hundreds of photos. Which can all be found in my gallery at:

Claire, the pleasure was ours. I hope Tara hasn't taken any harm from her exertions - she certainly enjoyed herself. Thank you for the photographs - they're excellent. See you and the gang next time, yes?

My favourite DH photos are the ones in B&W, they seem to give a real feel to the colour and ruggedness of a Deerhound.

I agree with Alan. B & W photographs are more dramatic than in colour what ever the subject. There are some stunning photos on this site. Must have a lot of talent here.

is the 5th april open to all breeds or is it for the deerhounds only?

xx

Re:Lure coursing in Scotland 3 years, 1 month ago #9539

pretty sure that thats an all dogs one. The only one that isn't I think is the one around the time of the breed show 17/18/19 April.
You can always email sue or give her a ring. her contact details are here...
www.scottish-deerhound.co...8&sobi2Id=8
You need to let her know how many you plan to take too.
Thanks
Rob
