Iv'e heard it all now! 3 years, 1 month ago #9466

Was out with hounds this evening and met a lady with a nice boxer dog. We were chatting and she asked (as most people do) what breed was Murray. I asked her what breed she thought he was and her reply was....an extra large poodle!!!!!!

Murray was very insulted and rightly so and has now gone into a mega sulk

Ha, ha. I haven't heard that one.

At one point I was on the verge of getting a T-shirt printed which said "No he's not an irish wolfhound or a lurcher or a greyhound........ he's a DEERHOUND!"

Oh, how funny....Poor Murray, bless him
I had some women at a dog show who were very sure that Elsie Grey was a giant Airdayle (Think I spelt that on wrong, Aerdail...still can't spell it )

It's when people ask me 'is Smokey a greyhound' - I feel like saying 'no - she's a kangaroo!

I burst out laughing when the lady said that but she was serious
When I told her he was a Deerhound she said she had never heard of a Deerhound Poor Murray - his male pride has been seriously dented

Actually yes, I really did think she was simple (horrid of me but hey!).

I have just told Murray that you have said that he is so very handsome and he has started to recover and says 'thank you'

Good for you Murray....don't you take any notice... you don't look like a poodle at all. He might have to casually have a Deerhound mag placed under his arm for his next walk incase he bumps into her again

We hate it when smarties say "Is that a horse, if you have a saddle you could ride him". If I had £1 for everytime I've heard that I'd be a rich man.

I was at a show at Stafford with Alan some years ago & we both had deerhounds with us & a man came up to me & asked me if they were “Deerhound – Bedlington Crosses”. I was gob smacked as I actually owned a Bedlington at that time & most people didn’t know what they were either!

Yes, that's a common one too, but they always think they are being highly original.

The best one we have had, was one day when walking through the local park a little boy asked his mum what doggies they were and she replied in a VERY knowledgeable voice that they were GERMAN BASSET HOUNDS!!!!!!!!!!!?????????

I mean HOW ON EARTH did she reach that conclusion????

Once we went to Italy to visit my aunt. We took also one of our Deerhounds. My cousins little daughter Martina, who had never seen a Deerhound before, shouted: Mama! Un cammello!
Martina is now a young lady loves dogs, but "hates" us when we talk about the camel that came to visit them

In a similar vein, my Number Two Son saw his first Rough Collie when he was still in his pushchair. He pointed at it and very firmly said 'Womble'.

And once we were just coming back to the car after a walk in out local country [ark when I overheard a small child telling her mother, 'See, Mummy, that's the wolf I was telling you about.' The wolf in question was my dear old Strathie, the sweetest thing on four paws. He never ate small girls, or at least not often.
