TOPIC: The big Wet

The big Wet 2 years, 11 months ago #12475

We have had so much rain that everything has flooded and overflowed. The creek has burst its banks and the dam has well and truly overflowed. We had built a dry rock wall with paths etc near the creek and now it has turned into a major water feature. It is very pretty but it is causing damage. As you can see we have lost the large wattle that was on top of the bank and all the trees that Terry planted along the rim of the usual full line are well and truly under water.
These photos were taken this morning, 24 hours since the rain has stopped so the water level isn't as much as it was yesterday.

Goodness me. It's like a river raging through your garden. Not something we see here. It is very beautiful but like you say extremely damaging. Such a shame about Terry's planting I hope they stay intact and manage to survive.

Our sympathies Sam from an also very soggy north coast. We have now had more than 1.5 metres of rain this year, our paddocks are underwater for the fourth time and the whole place is absolutely sodden. Much more of this and I'll have the only deerhounds with webbed feet

Wow, it does look like a raging river through your carden, you almost expect to see a canoeist or a white water rafter coming down!

It must be distressing. MrsMc, we have had it here, wasn't it Tewkesbury under water a few years back, and Devon and Cornwall, but I am pleased to say (which is a first for the UK) it is beautiful, hot and sunny here. It should be us posting pics like that, what is wrong with the weather of the world lately?

I am so sorry for your garden, we had also very much rain in the last week and a lot of floodings in Austria. I was lucky because I live in a higher region in Austria.

Thanks Sue, all I can say is "thank God I bought my tartan wellies" because the ground here is also sodden. I took video footasge on the friday when it was more full on and I wouldn't have been able to walk out the front door without them.

Clyde we live high up as well but our flooding is from run off from the surrounding hills and mountains. We live in a gully so the water naturally travels this way. It has been 4 years since we have seen anything like this so I am expecting decent snow in a month or so.
Terry's shed was totally flooded. Typical being that he isn't here. I might try and put a little footage together.

Yes your right I am forgetting about the bad floods here a couple of summers ago. A lot of people suffered.

Ooh er! I spoke too soon. Just had to go and collect my son from a golf club, they were called off teh course, big competition and I have never seen anything like it! we are under water in Watford! We've got ork lightning, horrible thunder and white water rafters will probably be going down our High Street as I talk!

Lurch, don't forget your wellies. They have been a godsend for me or do you need waders...

Possible a canoe!!!

Woke up to beautiful sunshine and scorching temperatures today, more like it, though Murphy doesn't like it!

Love the pics Sam, but could please send some of the wet this way. I spent the weekend in Wagga where it rained most of the time. so rain to the north, rain to the south, but none here!!

Hope you quickly get your garden back to normal. We had torrential rain here the other day although it only lasted a short while and now its getting hot. It's great, but Ben's not very keen on it, shame we don't have a stream running through the garden for him to soak in.

The waters are receding a bit now but we are expecting more rain in the week. It's a shame that Terry has missed it as he would have loved it as much as me. I'm glad though that the Manferns didn't wash away. That would have been tragic.
