If anyone likes tortoises we visited 'the tortoise garden' on this weekends cornwall visit. They had really big ones and tiny little hatchlings - very sweet. A lovely tranquil place with loads of lovely tortoises

I used to have tortoises I had over 11 at one time, They were all rescued some from private keepers who could no longer look after them and some were ex stock from Edinburgh zoo, the others were from the British Tortoise society I was on the rescue list for fostering +. They are fast especialy if it is a male after a female.

I'm much the same.
I wouldn't have tortoises while i've got Deerhounds though, the hounds might think they're some new exotic type of pasty.

you could take dogs into the tortoise garden but Murray was a bit too enthusiastic about the more mobile one's and had to be escorted off the premises back into the car

When I had the crossbreed she did manage to run upstairs with one of the box tortoises luckily the tortoise shut itself in the shell (hence the name box tortoise)and was unhurt but I think Cokee thought it was crunchie bone!!

I suppose a dog could do a tortoise a lot of harm

I have this image in my head now,of a kind of slow motion course across the grass, between a big shaggy grey dog and a small crusty pasty on legs...maybe with a bit of keepy-uppy going on..with both participants looking as confused as the other...

I still have mine from when I was 8 years old - she must be 50 plus now. Millie is scared of her - she can't understand why that big stone keeps moving!!

Oooh don't give Elsie Grey any ideas.....she'd probably think it was 'a take-away' pork pie and try to eat it anyway
