TOPIC: Gold Star Dog Exhibition

Gold Star Dog Exhibition 2 years, 11 months ago #11804

There seems to be a few local shows in my area called "Gold Star Dog Exhibition" run by and licensed by "Dogshows Ltd".
Any B.O.B winners gain a Gold Star and there is a Reserve B.O.B, three Gold Stars entitle the exhibit to be a Gold Star Champion.
I have attended one of these shows and hold one Gold Star, they are not as well supported as Open Shows but just as friendly and as much fun.
I am entered into another next weekend and just wondered if anyone else has these in their area or is it just up here in the North.
The Gold Star Certificates are very well produced and obviously nice to win!

I haven't heard anything about them here in sunny (no, really) Scotland. I do remember reading something about this in the dog papers a couple of years ago, though, but rather thought it had all fizzled out. I'd keep shtum about it where the KC's concerned if I was you.

They do have a web site but I didnt gain much from it I actually entered not realising it wasnt a KC event till I got there. I tried to gain info from the show manager who told me to check the web site, full circle so to speak.
Looks like it,s just my area then may do a few phone calls out of interest.

Did the show you went to have a good entry? Were there any other Deerhounds? On average, how large would you say most of your shows are? (in the main centers) Also - curious..how far in advance do your shows close prior to the actual show date?
Thank you..

I have spoken to KC re the topic they havent heard of Gold Star or the Dog Shows Limited!!
They said there is no detriment to showing at these shows but obviously any awards would not be recognised on their system.
Incidently some one else had just rung them on the same topic!

I,ve just had a chat with "Robert Killick" (Our Dogs) I used to live by him reference the Gold Star shows. He informs me that a few years ago the KC would ban exhibitors that entered these shows but the ruling today has been relaxed and the effect on KC shows is to minute for them to worry about. Therefore there is no objection for entries to alternative shows. Interestingly he told me it was the Leeds area that they started years ago and looks like they are up and running again.

Hi Cassandra, I'm no expert but the last couple of champ shows I've been to had around 90 entries. Usually the closing date is approx. 5/6 weeks before the show. Open shows are a bit more flexible.

Thank you Mrs Mc I never got round to replying re-entry,s I have one bitch in season and keeping me on my toes!!
The Gold Star shows dont attract many entries and the closing dates are appx 2 weeks prior to show!
Open Shows round here used to be really well supported but the Deerhound classes have diminished and therefore the support. Entries usually one month in advance.
On the bright side there are a lot of Agricultural Shows with open dog show and theres a lot of good days out to be had.

Yes there was a show at Stafford Agricultural show a couple of weeks ago. Then you have the benefit of looking around afterwards.

It was great, birds of prey, sheep shearing, shoeing of horses (which I know has a proper title ) no to mention lots of stalls. I got a lovely deerhound clip for showing
