Congratulations. Nice pictures, the dogs look very smart, they must have had baths and lots of grooming.

Oh, they look beautiful. You look very smart too. Just out of interest, do you wear the same outfit to all the shows? Someone told me once to wear the same jacket and then the all round judges would recognise you. I don't tend to bother that much, I have three jackets I wear for dog showing but I like my red check one best because I think it brings me luck. Also wearing something bright sometimes makes you stand out from everyone else when you are in the final line-up.

Now I know where I am going wrong!!! I'll try as of Friday (Richmond) and see if I have any luck!! Are you going to that one, or is it a bit far?

No, we are not going to Richmond. I didn't think Mallie would be Nic's cup of tea and it is a long way to go with just one hound so we decided to give it a miss. Our next show is Darlington on 12th. Good Luck Helen. Are you going to the Limited Breed show and have you booked for Dunblane? I have booked our room but I may have to go on my own or Charlotte may come with me. April is not a good time for us because we have started lambing by then.

I think it is a good idea to wear a red jacket in the show ring , as the auto-suggestion makes the Judges think that they should give you the red rosette for 1st place ! Well thats the theory anyway !

I always love to see Deerhounds in really good condition at the shows ( and everywhere , but at shows I find it so important - after all , they are tremendous athletes ! ) - not that I go to shows often . Yours look very strong and very beautiful ! How tall ( and heavy ) is Lockie ? He looks very big in the pics .
With greetings from BC ,
Verena

Not the Limited Show this year. My son plays golf at County Level and I
find myself driving him here and there for tournaments, so have to sacrifice a few of my own things (as Mum's do!!)
Darlington is far for me, as is Dunblane and it would only ever be me going!! so I would be on my own all weekend!! I suppose it is nice for the people in Scotland to have a show nearer to them, but it's a long long way, if Murphy was this eye catching stunning boy (well I think he is!!) then it may be different, but it's only a bit of fun for me. Darlington also is a long long way, we're in Hertfordshire, 15 miles outside London.
Did I qualify for Crufts at Bournemouth, he came 3rd in Graduate? Never sure of these things!!

Hi Helen, Sorry, Graduate is not a qualifying class. Just as an aside, If you ever want to do any of the shows held at 3 Counties, Stafford or NEC you are very welcome to stay here with us.

Hi Brochallan
Lovely photos how on earth do you get Lockie to stand so well on the free stand/stack? Mine are forever crossing their legs over!
Hi Lurch I also don't think the graduate class counts for qualification but a third in post-grad certainly does. Here's the crufts link re qualification www.crufts.org.uk/dog_exh..._qualification/ It would be great to see you there. I'll have to get thinking about a lucky outfit for my next show now.

Hi all
Thanks for the compliments. I was a bit more dressy on the saturday as we had an international judge, and it was also a cool day. The red jacket is woollen. I like wearing that jacket, not only because of the power colour but it compliments the dogs well In the the last photo where I am out of shot, I was wearing a rust coloured out fit. We had a double that weekend so it was a bit hard wearing the same outfit. Bree won her first group with me in that jacket so I do like to wear it when I can.
Verena, Lockie is a big strong boy. He is 34.5" tall and weighs around 47kg. He is also vwey fast.
I have done a lot of training for stacking with Lock and whenever he gets a treat he has to "stand" for it. I think I was lucky though. Bree tends to always have one rear leg out and will cross her front legs too.

Thanks Sally, very kind of you, NEC is actually only an hour up the M1 for me, we are junction 5 M1, so not too bad.
Oh well, probably not Crufts again for us next year, we got their last year, though I did find it so tiring, much better when you are watching than showing! Perhaps I'll just come up and watch everyone!

I didn't say what one was wearing made you win and I certainly don't think judges are judging jackets. But I do think out of respect for your judge you should be dressed smart. I think this stems from my horse showing days. In the horse world there is no way you would exhibit a horse, in-hand or ridden, dressed in a pair of old trousers or jeans and dirty boots. Nor would you have long hair loose. In horses there is a strict dress code.
I take care in how my dogs are presented in the ring and I am not going to let them down by looking like something that has been dragged through a hedge backwards. It would be dis-respectful to the judge.
My daughter shows a fawn whippet and she was told by her breeder to wear dark and not light coloured trousers. Not because the judge will be judging her trousers but because by wearing dark trousers the profile of the dog stands out better.

The above comment is the one that made me make my comment
Its nice to see people smart but to be frank if I am judging I would not notice the handler if they were running around in the nude, its the hounds I am looking at
