Well, I only went along to heckle, having missed the entry because I thought I had a Deerhound Club committee meeting this weekend, but I ended up handling Sue and Kevin's lovely Mini (Gentiehun Mia-May), who won her class and the open class as well (with Sue handling her in open because I was showing Rannoch in that class) to get BOB. And then didn't Sue ask me to handle Mini and Kevin's lovely Sheila (Jacobite Rosanne to G) who'd gone best puppy in breed, in their respective groups; and then didn't Sheila only go and win the hound puppy group on only her second UK outing? What a wee star, eh? I only met her for the first time on Sunday but she showed her little Deerhound socks off for me, bless her. By the time best in show and best puppy in show came along, Sheila was beginning to get tired, but she still tried her hardest and showed so well. I was thrilled to bits and I think Sue and Kev were quite pleased too.

How does that grab you, Pam & Dave?

Congratulations everyone. Sheila is such a class act. What a trooper to keep going. Pups get so tired towards the end. I can't wait to see her in the flesh and give her a cuddle. Will she be at Kelso in April?

Well done Sid, what a shame to busy to heckle!

Re:Caledonian Canine Society, 6th February 2 years, 3 months ago #19335

Well done Sid, I should have paid more attention to when this show was on. I'm not in to showing, but Sheila has really caught my attention. Sue and Kevin should be rightly delighted with the young ladies performance. I'd love to have seen her move in the ring.

Hope you gave Rannoch big hugs fi me

Well, you know Rannoch - he insists on his cuddles and had plenty of them. The highlight of the day was seeing Marjory in her camp chair with Nanny sitting triumphantly on her lap - that was quite something to behold.

How do people know in enough time how and where to enter these shows as we have had people promise to tell us when things are coming up but are still waiting thanks

Try www.pitalpin.co.uk (from memory) and the print shop for schedules for upcoming open shows, and www.fossedata.co.uk and www.highampress.co.uk for championship show schedules. The weekly dog papers used to be the place to look, but they don't seem to carry as many ads as they did.

Scottish Breeds championship show is on the last Saturday in March and Hound Association of Scotland's championship show is in early April and there's still time to enter both. If you'd rather start smaller and with less pressure, one Scottish show that you should try to get to is Hound Association of Scotland's members' show on 11th July at Alva - it's the social occasion of the summer; there's always a good turn-out of Deerhounds and it's a grand day out. HAS make a point of inviting up and coming judges and they always pull a good entry, so it's a good place to see a representative sample of the breed in Scotland. Champions and dogs who have won a CC aren't eligible for entry, though.

Congratulations on the wins. Sheila is certainly making her mark.

BTW it isn't only pups that wilt by the time Show specials come round. Bree is a shocker for falling in a heap at the most inoppotune times such as Best in Show

Hello,

Congratulations for the winners.

Best regards

Sid,
that does seem to be most satisfactory......
Bit of British understatement there.....
Truly we are thrilled that Sue loves her, she is a sweetheart, Tess, her sister that we kept is a bit of a devil....
We only took Sheila to 2 or 3 shows and she quite liked them and showed well for both Pam and Nat ( who took her in for the Challenge line-up at our Champ Show )

Love the one of Marjory, too. Note to self: next time you go to a dog show to spectate, dress as though you were planning to show...

Sheila really has gone grey, and in such a short time, less than 8 weeks ago she was almost black, Tess still is dark, getting a LITTLE bit of grey.
The cold must be bad for her Sue, perhaps you better send her back......
If you go to www.facebook.com/?sk=mess...d=1230676810184 you can see pics of Sheila and Tess's sister, who we sold to Dimity, a ballet dancer and a very nice girl, she loves her pup, she calls her Rose.
