Daisy got 1st Junior and Best Puppy

Even better though was that we took Mack and showed him again for the first time for ages.

When we first brought him into the ring we were told that he wasn't very good quality show wise and we were gutted and decided to retire him at less than a year old. But we thought we like showing and he enjoys it so we entered him for this show to see how he would be. He stood like and rock and behaved beautifully. He is still a bit rangey but at 18 months he has a bit of filling out to do. Dan handled him really well as it is only his second time.

The judge said it was a very close thing but he came second to Nixophel Crystal Amethyst JW who we love so we were absolutely chuffed to bits that our boy was liked after thinking all this time that he wasn't good enough. The judge was lovely and encouraged us to keep going with him which we will. A good day all around

Well done all of you!I'm chuffed for Mack as well.I know how you feel,it's awful when you're told your dog's not good enough,I had the same with Megan and almost gave up with her too, then she went on to win 3 1sts at champ shows last year,a RCC,and best in show at a hound show against 25 other breeds.Keep going,a boost in your own confidence does you the world of good!

But your Megan is lovely, Lynne - just goes to show you can please some of the judges some of the time, eh? And well done Mack. Never write off a Deerhound as not being show quality before it's at least five years old.

Well done MrsMc.

I agree with Sid you never know how a dog is going to turn out and 1 year is far too young to retire them. People are quick to pass judgement and often it's just that they don't like that particular type of dog rather than them not being 'show quality' or not good enough. Another judge might have quite a different opinion.

Congratulations and well done to you all. Keep it up as long as you all enjoy it. It is great for socialising.

Congratulations. It amazes me how you can enter one dog in more than one class. Here you can only ener one class.

Well done Sara, Dan, Daisy and Mack. Brilliant result.
Sam, Sara and Dan might correct me on this as I wasn't there but....Daisy wasn't entered in more than one class. At some of the open shows there is only a couple of classes and it is usual for dogs and bitches to be in the same class. If there is no puppy class and your puppy is entered in Junior and your puppy is the highest placed puppy in that class then your puppy is automatically awarded Best puppy. Hope that makes sense.

Well done with your wins.

When it comes to judgign Dh pups and saying whether or not thye are show quality, most judges wouldn't have a clue. They can grow in the most peculiar proportions, bum high, shoulder high, sometimes the legs grow and the rest can take a couple of years to catch up. As Sid said most Dh dogs don't mature until they are about 5 years so don't give up one that's only 12 months.
