Any interest on this bitch Robb?

Re:Deerhound in Need of New Home 2 years, 10 months ago #12488

Yeah there are a couple of possibles. Alan (Claonaiglen) is looking into it. I think hes possibly going to take the dog in temporarily to assess its needs. Thanks everyone for your interest. Hopefully this will have a happy ending for all concerned. I'll keep the information up on the site for the time being and let you know as and when I hear of any developments.

Any news anyone??

Re:Deerhound in Need of New Home 2 years, 10 months ago #12508

Hello Betina - was just in the process of reading your messages- I'll reply here instead.
I'll keep all the names of everyone who has contacted about this together. Alan is going to have a look at assessing the dog and as soon as I've heard back from him I'll let you know. Its obviously better for the dog to go to the right place rather then being moved again. I know that he's got at least one potential home in mind, plus several that have offered help via email.

Progress is being made and I'll let you all know as soon as I know anything.
Everyones help and interest is much appreciated and I'm quite amazed at how quickly things are happening. Watch this space...
Thank you

Hi everybody, thought you all might like an update on the Deerhound bitch in need of a new
home.

Alan drove to Anglesey yesterday to collect her and she will stay here to be assessed.
Any enquiries should be directed to the Deerhound clubs Rescue Co-ordinator Mrs Sue Reynolds.

The information we have on Honey so far is:-

She was bred in County Durham and her date of Birth is 2 September 2005 and is one of a
litter of 7.

Honeys registered name is Canishurn Athena of Pharcourse.

Honey is By Kenmiltri Jock and out of Hydfron Amethyst. (Small world, Honey is a niece of our
Hydfron Amber, our rescued Deerhound).

On the 26 October 2007 Honey gave birth to a litter of 9 puppies.

Honey is a lovely young lady although she is a little reserved on first meeting new people
and dogs. On saying that she has spent the day with our Stud dog Ruag (who thought his luck
was in when Alan pulled up with Honey in the car, only to have his hopes dashed when he
realised this particular visiting bitch was not in season).

Honey has been in the garden and down the paddocks off the lead with Ruag and her recall
is very good for a Deerhound. Tonight she has met Orrin, Joe, Finnan and Ellie, Charlottes
Whippet and they all got on fine. She has eaten her tea in a stand next to Orrin and Ellie
and there was no bother and Ellie even thought she would have a try of Honey's tea and Honey
never so much as curled a lip.

Our feelings at the moment are that Honey would be better in a home with only one Deerhound and that
should be a male. The new Owner should also not be working as one of Honey's "issues" is that she
suffers from anxiety when left alone.

We will keep you posted with Honey's progress but rest assured that for the moment she is
fine and is settling in quite well.

Hi Sally
Thanks for posting an update. Well thats us out of the running to give her home if she is going to better off with a male and only d/h and someone who is home all day But the main thing is that she is ok - am so pleased to hear that

Re:Deerhound in Need of New Home 2 years, 10 months ago #12612

Well done you two for taking the time, effort and expense in rescuing her I,m sure her future welfare is now a much better picture.

Sal could also have told you that Honey has had at least four if not five homes and she is three and a half years old, knows the country better than I do.

Well done

Has anyone phoned Elaine Medlicott about this,?? I know for a fact she would be horrified to hear this news. I try to stay in touch with all my puppy owners but live in fear of this kind of thing happening and not being contacted. my owners sign a legal contract to say they will contact me and thats why I do not breed often.

I will call her tomorrow

Glad she has had some nice food and company

Honey has settled in really well. She has met all of the dogs now and they all get on fine. Honey sleeps in the kitchen with the older girls.

Ruag and Finnan are not having such a wonderful time at the moment though because Honey
has come into season and she is a terrible flirt. All doors are kept shut and the puppy
gates are tied just in case they get sprung by the darned Whippet. Ellie somehow manages
to open the puppy gates and we haven't quite worked out how she does it, so to be on the safe side we are tying them shut.

Honey can be a little nervous on meeting new people but to be honest, we haven't uncovered any other issues. She has been very well looked after by her previous owners and she is in very good condition weight and grooming wise. She is clean in the house,
has a good recall, eats well and interacts well with all the other dogs. I wouldn't like to trust her with cats or other small furries, she has been keeping a close eye on the hens and is very keen on rabbits, but hey, she is a sight hound and if it moves it is fair game.

HONEY IS LOVELY, but we can't keep them all and somewhere out there there is a loving, permanent home for her, and she deserves it.

She is adorable and I really hope she finds her forever home soon. As the OH no doubt offered we would have her if she was cat friendly. Anyway two is quite enough.

Re:Deerhound in Need of New Home 2 years, 10 months ago #13120

Awe Sally I do wish I could take her, but I think my two boys are handful enough for me! Mind you if she is as big a flirt as you suggest, perhaos she would drive my two daft! Gx

Wish I could have her sally, but have the two hounds and work during term time. Don't think the old boy next door who visits and takes mine out at lunch times could handle another one, bless him! Also have 4 cats, who Elsie Grey keeps very clean and tidy with constant wash and brush ups, usually they end up dripping with their coats all going in the wrong direction Honey probably would not cope with all of that.
Do hope she finds a special forever home soon, bless her heart . Glad she is with you and Alan for now though

Hi everyone, I would like to take this opportunity to give a BIG THANKS to Alan and Sally for the kind way they welcomed us into their home (and their very busy lives)when we made enquiries about Honey.
To cut a long story short, we were lucky enough to be accepted by Alan and Sally-and Honey,as suitable new parents for Honey, we picked her up on Saturday and she has settled in easier than I thought possible with our teenage Lurcher (a Deerhound,Whippet cross).Honey seems to have a lovely temperment, and puts up with a lot of investigation from a cold nose from a pup with very few social manners, but to see them both curl up on their duvet together, and fall asleep is just beautiful.
