Totally agree with Lurch 8252. I'd been looking for a deerhound site/forum and stumbled on this one through another website. Great to be able to share views, thoughts etc. thanks for this site.

I also think it is great if you are a first time Deerhound owner, as they are a strange breed in many ways. Coming from Greyhounds and Lurchers, Deerhounds were a shock to the system!! I probably pestered his breeder with many questions "Why isn't he eating" etc, etc. How fantastic that you can log on, have a good Deerhound chat and get advise to lots of unanswered questions.
I haven't checked, it may be, but what a good idea to link this site to the Deerhound Club website.
I love seeing pictures of other peoples dogs and reading their tales, show or other wise.
Whoever thought of this site desrves a medal!

Totally agree with these comments, I notice there are often quite a few guests , I so hope they decide to post.
The Deerhound Club uk I think has decided not to have a links page

I wonder why the deerhound club UK has decided not to have a links page to this site? Does anyone know why?

I love this site too. It is a place where questions and stories can be asked and told, where experienced and like minded people can discuss the trials and tribulations of having Deerhounds.
Well done Rob
Maybe the club doesn't like the idea of people coming here for answers rather than themselves?

As far as I'm aware, the Deerhound Club hasn't taken a position on this site or its forum.

I don't think the UK club link to personal pages.
It is very difficult to get a new personal website linked from anywhere on the Internet, that's really why I set this up. To help raise the profile of other deerhound websites, so they can be found in Google etc.

I should add that this site isn't trying to undermine any club or personal pages. The directory is open for all relevant sites to list in (I do filter out inappropriate content). This site is a means of allowing informal communication between those with an interest in deerhounds. It's not affiliated to any clubs.
Hopefully independent and unbiased, everyone can have their say, assuming its appropriate, relevant, clean and not going to get me into serious trouble....

The deerhound Club has a policy of no private links, I think to avoid the politics as we do have commerial breeders that would benefit from the links to the disadvantage of members who only breed to continue there own lines. and not for financial reward

Thanks for answering my question guys.
I like the 'feel' of this site. Although I don't intend to breed or show Murray and just want him as a much loved pet, I am still very interested in learning from others as much as I can about Deerhounds
Some dog forums I have belonged in the past can be very 'aggressive' when opinions differ and do not, I feel, respect others point of view so I hope this one will be different.
I am really looking forward to being a part of this site as it grows and develops. Well done and thank you for setting it up

I found this site as a spin off from a search on Deerhounds. I think that we very much need a site such as this as there seems to be a gap on somewhere offering general information and chat about the Scottish Deerhound.
I fell into Deerhounds when somebody I knew needed to find a new home for their dog. I had known and loved the dog since I first saw him as a puppy, and when he was 6 months I took him under my wing. I searched everywhere for information and communication regarding the breed but to no avail. The Deerhound club were of very little assistance and could only recommend a book to purchase. I did locate a lady eventually who gave me some answers to questions that I had. I only wish that this site had been up and running at that time.
Keep up the good work.

Didn't realize that this site was so new having only signed on myself recently. A huge thank you to Teratyke for setting this up! It's brilliant. Such a treat to find so many enthusiasts for what is essentially a very rare breed. Here in Canada the Canadian Kennel Club only lists around 3 to 4 Deerhound litters a year, and sometimes 0 litters! We don't have a national Deerhound club. I check into this site often for a quick look round as I find the members to be kind and generous with their advice and the discussions are always lively! As I said, it's a treat!
