Do you think you can dance rings around your owner, give Osian Bolt a run for his money or belt out a tune better than any poodle? Does your act leave people speechless? Do you garden better than Titchmarsh? Is your show work mesmerising or maybe your pup dreams of stardom? Whatever it is you do then we want to hear from you!
If you’ve got an act you think the world would like to see, then it’s time you applied for Deerhounds Have Talent.
Deerhounds Have Talent will be running on Scottish-Deerhound.com in 2009 and there are absolutely no rules - any talent, any age, any hound - simple as that! So what are you waiting for, apply here with your audition material and you could be the first deerhound superstar!
Now that's PROPER snow, Elise - just what a deerhound coat is built for! None of that nampy pamby snow we've had in recent years (and I include Scotland in that).
When I were a lad the snow was that thick in summer - and we all had to walk to school barefoot, with nowt on but rags and a chunk of coal for our lunch etc etc.
We would have had to have winched ours in from a helicopter to have gotten them up there, so this is DEFINITELY a deerhound with talent if ever I saw one.
Well here's a new winter olympic sport for hounds - kennel jumping.
These are some photos of one of the top performing Cusidh's who has qualified for 2010 in Vancouver. Here she is practicising over the resuce dogs kennels in Fife.
Thank you for posting these vids of singing deerhounds - what fun! Mine gathered around my computer while I was playing the songs as if they knew they were listening to other deerhounds. Maybe someone should put together a CD, make a nice gift for the dogs at Christmas and we could play it on long car trips to keep everyone with four legs happy
Our Murphy sings along in time to a squeaky tennis ball - does that count as talent? Must try to get him to perform for the camera - I sense a challenge!
if you click on both the links to singing deerhounds at once you can listen to them in total harmony and its even better. Found it by technological disaster.
copied this from another thread - thank you verenav - Rob
Love this video , too - and also the typial fact , being a deerhound , to not move one centimeter too much !!! It inspired the breeder of one of my deeries to make one of their own ; Grain has a totally different singing style and the " other singer " in it isn't quite as good as the one on tv with Bree - still very enjoiable . Here is the link :
- if it doesn'twork go to youtube and google " Aiobgrain der singende deerhound ".

A lady has contacted me who needs to find a new home for a deerhound. She took the dog on a year ago following a death in the original owner’s family. Unfortunately her circumstances have changed drastically and due to increased workload and an episode of ill health she feels she is no longer able to properly care for the dog. The dog is a pure bred 3 ½ year old bitch – although the exact origins and pedigree are unclear at this time. The dog has been liver shunt tested (clear), wormed and vaccinated. The dog is fit and attractive. Sadly the dog is exhibiting signs of stress and I think needs an experienced owner to bring the dog back to her best.
The dog is located in Anglesey, North Wales.
If you think you can help please contact me so I can arrange an exchange of contact details. The situation has come to a head and a resolution needs to be found as quickly as possible.
Please note this is for information to help the future I cannot vouch for or guarantee the suitability, conditionor origins of this dog.

Thank you everyone for your kind comments, and in your welcoming me to your forum I would love to post piccys of Honey & Max,but I'm completely computor illiterate (if you knew how long it's taken me to type this you would understand - sad isn't it?) The good news is I've managed to download some pictures from the camera to the computor, but to get them to the forum is one of lifes great mysteries. However, all is not lost,'cos if I ask (and beg) nicely perhaps Caroline - my long suffering wife - will help me (whilst muttering something under her breath about all men being useless - I believe she picked that little gem up from you Sally when Alan and I were doing a bit of male bonding at your place). So watch this space, the photos will turn up (fingers crossed). It seems that Honey has been with us a lot longer than five days (I have taken a weeks holiday and Caroline has taken off the rest of the week so we can all get to know each other - thats Honey & us, not me & Caroline). Honey is turning into a real sweety, she is good in the house and on her walks, and puts up with the attention of Max, who has now taken the official position of 'Honeys shadow'

Oh Pete, you've gone and done it now . Not only have you just taken home your first Deerhound but you've joined the Deerhound forum. You know what this means don't you? I think you're well and truly hooked and I'll give you 12 months max before your on the look out for your next Deerhound. It's Deerhound law, you have to have more than one.
Pleased to hear Honey has started to settle in. The kitchen seems really big without her .
Re:Deerhound in Need of New Home Aug 09 2009 20:08:03
Great news about Honey!
Secondly welcome to the Forum , Pete, I hope that you find it useful
Thirdly pictures please of Honey and her new friend - from a purely selfish reason as I'm sure that our previous lurcher was a deerhound whippet cross and I'm really curious to see another one.

Hi everyone, I would like to take this opportunity to give a BIG THANKS to Alan and Sally for the kind way they welcomed us into their home (and their very busy lives)when we made enquiries about Honey.
To cut a long story short, we were lucky enough to be accepted by Alan and Sally-and Honey,as suitable new parents for Honey, we picked her up on Saturday and she has settled in easier than I thought possible with our teenage Lurcher (a Deerhound,Whippet cross).Honey seems to have a lovely temperment, and puts up with a lot of investigation from a cold nose from a pup with very few social manners, but to see them both curl up on their duvet together, and fall asleep is just beautiful.
Re:Deerhound in Need of New Home Jul 21 2009 13:23:53
Wish I could have her sally, but have the two hounds and work during term time. Don't think the old boy next door who visits and takes mine out at lunch times could handle another one, bless him! Also have 4 cats, who Elsie Grey keeps very clean and tidy with constant wash and brush ups, usually they end up dripping with their coats all going in the wrong direction Honey probably would not cope with all of that.
Do hope she finds a special forever home soon, bless her heart . Glad she is with you and Alan for now though
Re:Deerhound in Need of New Home Jul 13 2009 13:04:01
Awe Sally I do wish I could take her, but I think my two boys are handful enough for me! Mind you if she is as big a flirt as you suggest, perhaos she would drive my two daft! Gx
Re:Deerhound in Need of New Home Jul 12 2009 21:06:04
She is adorable and I really hope she finds her forever home soon. As the OH no doubt offered we would have her if she was cat friendly. Anyway two is quite enough.
Re:Deerhound in Need of New Home Jul 12 2009 20:47:38
Honey has settled in really well. She has met all of the dogs now and they all get on fine. Honey sleeps in the kitchen with the older girls.
Ruag and Finnan are not having such a wonderful time at the moment though because Honey
has come into season and she is a terrible flirt. All doors are kept shut and the puppy
gates are tied just in case they get sprung by the darned Whippet. Ellie somehow manages
to open the puppy gates and we haven't quite worked out how she does it, so to be on the safe side we are tying them shut.
Honey can be a little nervous on meeting new people but to be honest, we haven't uncovered any other issues. She has been very well looked after by her previous owners and she is in very good condition weight and grooming wise. She is clean in the house,
has a good recall, eats well and interacts well with all the other dogs. I wouldn't like to trust her with cats or other small furries, she has been keeping a close eye on the hens and is very keen on rabbits, but hey, she is a sight hound and if it moves it is fair game.
HONEY IS LOVELY, but we can't keep them all and somewhere out there there is a loving, permanent home for her, and she deserves it.
Re:Deerhound in Need of New Home Jun 29 2009 22:53:20
Well done
Has anyone phoned Elaine Medlicott about this,?? I know for a fact she would be horrified to hear this news. I try to stay in touch with all my puppy owners but live in fear of this kind of thing happening and not being contacted. my owners sign a legal contract to say they will contact me and thats why I do not breed often.
Re:Deerhound in Need of New Home Jun 29 2009 22:51:08
Sal could also have told you that Honey has had at least four if not five homes and she is three and a half years old, knows the country better than I do.
Re:Deerhound in Need of New Home Jun 29 2009 22:27:22
Hi Sally

Re:Deerhound in Need of New Home Jun 29 2009 22:16:18
Hi everybody, thought you all might like an update on the Deerhound bitch in need of a new
home.
Alan drove to Anglesey yesterday to collect her and she will stay here to be assessed.
Any enquiries should be directed to the Deerhound clubs Rescue Co-ordinator Mrs Sue Reynolds.
The information we have on Honey so far is:-
She was bred in County Durham and her date of Birth is 2 September 2005 and is one of a
litter of 7.
Honeys registered name is Canishurn Athena of Pharcourse.
Honey is By Kenmiltri Jock and out of Hydfron Amethyst. (Small world, Honey is a niece of our
Hydfron Amber, our rescued Deerhound).
On the 26 October 2007 Honey gave birth to a litter of 9 puppies.
Honey is a lovely young lady although she is a little reserved on first meeting new people
and dogs. On saying that she has spent the day with our Stud dog Ruag (who thought his luck
was in when Alan pulled up with Honey in the car, only to have his hopes dashed when he
realised this particular visiting bitch was not in season).
Honey has been in the garden and down the paddocks off the lead with Ruag and her recall
is very good for a Deerhound. Tonight she has met Orrin, Joe, Finnan and Ellie, Charlottes
Whippet and they all got on fine. She has eaten her tea in a stand next to Orrin and Ellie
and there was no bother and Ellie even thought she would have a try of Honey's tea and Honey
never so much as curled a lip.
Our feelings at the moment are that Honey would be better in a home with only one Deerhound and that
should be a male. The new Owner should also not be working as one of Honey's "issues" is that she
suffers from anxiety when left alone.
We will keep you posted with Honey's progress but rest assured that for the moment she is
fine and is settling in quite well.

Hello Betina - was just in the process of reading your messages- I'll reply here instead.
I'll keep all the names of everyone who has contacted about this together. Alan is going to have a look at assessing the dog and as soon as I've heard back from him I'll let you know. Its obviously better for the dog to go to the right place rather then being moved again. I know that he's got at least one potential home in mind, plus several that have offered help via email.
Progress is being made and I'll let you all know as soon as I know anything.
Everyones help and interest is much appreciated and I'm quite amazed at how quickly things are happening. Watch this space...
Thank you
Re:Deerhound in Need of New Home Jun 27 2009 18:55:29
Yeah there are a couple of possibles. Alan (Claonaiglen) is looking into it. I think hes possibly going to take the dog in temporarily to assess its needs. Thanks everyone for your interest. Hopefully this will have a happy ending for all concerned. I'll keep the information up on the site for the time being and let you know as and when I hear of any developments.
