Deerhound Calendar Competition E-mail
Written by Rob Horsfield

Steve (CiCoch) came up with the great idea of getting a calendar made up featuring some of the best pictures from the site.

There are some fantastic photographers amongst us so please have a go! There is a minimal entry fee and winners will receive their calendar out of the proceeds. Any further monies gained from entry fees or calendar sales will be donated to the North Clwyd Animal Rescue.

We hope the end product should be something really special.

Full details can be found in Steve's forum posts including details of how to pay and enter.

If you'd like to take part please submit your photographs in any/all of the listed categories. The end result will be a printed deerhound Calendar featuring 13 photographs chosen (as the winners) by a panel of our 3 Judges (yet to be found, any impartial volunteers?).

The categories are as follows

  1. Deerhound/s Puppy
  2. Deerhound/s Portrait
  3. Deerhound/s in a Landscape
  4. Deerhound/s in Action
  5. Snow Deerhound/s
  6. Sleepy Deerhound/s
  7. New! Deerhound Just for Fun!

We have 10 people who have submitted 1 or more photos so far, which is brilliant ! Thankyou.
We only need 3 more people to take part to cover the fixed cost of producing the calendar.

Please keep the photos coming in. There are some really nice ones already.

We have 2 judges now, but we are still waiting for a 3rd. Please put yourself forward if your not submitting photos yourself. Thankyou. CiCoch.

Yes, but not all of us belong to the Deerhound club and it's a good way of trying to get our hounds onto a calendar and if not, well, it's fun and hopefully will enable us to brush up on our caamera techniques There is plenty of room for another deerhound calendar anyway

Thankyou. Ultimately I just want everyone on to have really nice Deerhound calendar, because there isn't one out there right now.

There is indeed a deerhound calendar out there. It is produced by the Deerhound Club as they do every year. It is available from the Club web site - www.deerhound.co.uk

when can we start posting our pics formally for the competition and have you chosen the judges yet?

Everyone can start posting now !
You don't have to do it all at once , and if you take a better photo later on, you can swap it for another one if you have submitted 6 already.
Just place the picture in the relevant category thread for it to be considered.

You don't have to submit one in each category , you can put all 6 into the Deerhound-Just for fun! if you like.

We have one Judge so far, if anyone else who considers themselves photographically challenged would like to offer there services, please drop me or Rob (teratyke) a pm.

Sounds good but am a bit confused what the 1 of 6 bit is all about. Is it a way of distinguishing the different pictures?

It's just a way of tracking how many pictures that people have submitted.
We've limited the number of pics to 6 to reduce the load on the judges and make sure everyone has a fair chance of winning. So it will just make it easier if everyone labels their submissions 1 to 6.

Ive added a 7th category . Deerhound Just for FUN!

As you know our lovely hounds can be a whole lot of different things , like ...

naughty, cheeky, cute, adorable, mad, zany, etc... so if you've got anything that doesn't fit into any of the other categories, then this is where it goes !!!

Update: Please be aware there are very few rooms now remaining at the hotel. As there are no other hotels in the area it is important to try and reserve your room as soon as possible even if you are just thinking of attending.  Please note that the hotel has a longer than usual cancellation policy.

Greetings from the U.S.!

Deerhound SpecialityFor those who do not get the Claymore, the newsletter of the Scottish Deerhound Club of America, the 2010 National Speciality web site is up and running (click to visit).

The Speciality is back on the east coast, May 11th to 16th 2010 and is in fact returning to the Basin Harbor Club in Vermont. This is the club's fourth time back at the wonderful, 700 acre, luxury resort in northern New England. Besides its great beauty and creature comforts, this site is perfectly suited to our show, as it has the facilities to host everything - from the show to lure coursing to racing - right on site.

This show is the biggest Deerhound entry in North America, with about 200 hounds. The premium list will be mailed this winter, and entries will close April 21st 2010. In addition, we are planning several educational programmes, such as a health, handling and deerhound standard seminars (there is sure to be a lively discussion at that last one!).

The hotel is located on Lake Champlain in Vergennes, just south of Burlington, Vermont, which is a short flight (or scenic drive) from either Boston, New York or Montreal.

We would like to extend a special invitation to our European friends, as New England is relatively close (well, relatively speaking). Click here for a Google Map of the area.

The Judges are, Elizabeth Chase, Monson, Massachusetts, Björn Fritz, Fritzen Deerhounds (click for website), Germany and Mrs. Patti Widick Neale, Alachua, Florida.

All the information about the show is on the web site, and we update it frequently, so please check back regularly. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact either of us show chairs (also called the co-dictators):

Hi Sid No I didn't, because I don't think mine is a patch on BeanieAndBiggles or Rogues. You have to upload the file, its not just a link.

There are quite a few deerhound video entries now into the SDCA Video Art Show. You can see them all on their youtube channel here...
www.youtube.com/user/sdca2010artshow

Its open to all and I have entered some of my videos. The winner is the one who gets the most votes, although there is no prize its a great way of raising the profile of deerhounds. So why not show your support for this open 'fun' competition and enter one of your own videos - failing that vote for me!

If you want to enter a video you need to email the contact on the sdca page to get the details, please see here for further details...

The Scottish Deerhound Club of America is running a few extra events with their breed show this year.
Firstly, a Deerhound Art Show featuring a category for video entries– its open to anyone – non SDCA members are welcome to participate – as long as its Deerhound related it can go in. Upload is via YouTube, so should be easy enough to enter.
For full details please see here..
www.deerhound.org/2010National/artshow.html

They are also having a Stud Dog presentation/display again this is open to all and for full details please see here..
